Becca Ford and the 15 Second Film
(5 minutes of value)
Becca Ford: AD/Filmmaker/Actress…Baller
Becca’s an old friend of mine. I felt so comfortable with her going in that I went off-script (Joe Rogan would be proud).
Becca’s cool…to say the least. Actress/Director/Musician are some of the titles she uses. Right now she’s doing this thing called the 15 second film. Well it’s more than just a thing. Becca and her crew go up to strangers and ask them to direct a 15 second film in the beautiful mecca we call New York City. Pretty cool stuff. In my book it’s empowering strangers to take a charge at something that might feel so distant (directing and film) and yet is so accessible.

Let’s talk about the podcast
Before we do, here’s the full episode. If anything you read stood out, just give the video a go.

15 Second Film
I got to talk with Becca and got the BTS for 15 Second Film.
75% of the people casted as directors are Organic.
25% are not.
They go about New York and ask people who they think would make good fits to take on the director role. They get a lot of no’s. I couldn’t imagine saying no to such an opportunity.
Friends and Film:
The story goes that the gang behind 15 second film were hired by Fallen Media, specifically this guy called Jeb who was hired to create it. They came to New York looking for a place to stay and Becca, being the person she is, let them stay with her. As friends, they began to create on social media and one thing led to another and they blew up.
Talking with Becca about it was interesting. She never referred to her numeric success, more of the bond she had with her friends, and the fact that she got to work with her friends. Truly a dream and a privilege.
They live together, work together, and most importantly they play together.
She became friends with them first, then worked creatively after.
Understand someone based on what they mean, NOT what they say.
Becca’s point here makes a greater point. What it means to be a great director. People talk a lot but to what extent do they truly mean what they say. Not blaming, just saying (get it)
She’s surrounded by creatives and has to decipher their language. NOT easy. That’s why it proved beneficial that she was friends with them before. Regardless, it’s not easy knowing what someone truly means versus what they are saying. Like “no I’m not hungry” vs “NO I’m not hungry.”
